The health insurance industry merges well with the strength of acute care, trauma, catastrophe, disease management, and symptom control, but it is not as strong for the overall process of wellness practices.

 

Insurance has a hand in managing the bio-medical model of care with diagnoses and treatment codes.

 

However, that system it isn't designed to pay for our toothpaste or organic broccoli, but hopefully we recognize that these things are important to maintain health. 

 

Because all things offered at Natural Wayz aim to promote wellness, are simple, self-empowering investment strategies, most cannot be covered by insurance companies and are not billable.

Things to understand about our health insurance product…

​

1. An insurance company does not dictate a practitioner’s scope of practice.  Practitioners are regulated in their boundaries of treatments and therapies by state and national governing bodies. 

There is no requirement for practitioners to participate in insurance networks, but if they do, they manage the patient’s case to determine if the patient's condition meets medical necessity guidelines, regardless of the consumer’s benefit package.

2. Insurance companies set parameters that do not necessarily tell you what you will require for your individual health journey but may help pay for acute situations and disease management. 

​

Medical necessity is NOT the same as clinical necessity. Medical necessity is a definition set for payment criteria per your insurance provider.

 

All services that are clinically appropriate for stabilization, for chronic disease or pain management, maintenance, and wellness may not be medically necessary according to your insurance product definitions.

​

Evaluations, treatments, and consultations that assess balance, aim to promote wellness, and enhance the quality of life are not deemed medically necessary nor reimbursable by your insurance company. This does not mean that they are unwarranted or invalid.

​

3. Insurance companies regulate what they will pay for according to the product that you purchased as their consumer.   

Dr. Astrea’s primary licensure is as a chiropractor and under the scope of this license, she can diagnose conditions of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems using the bio-medical model of care. Diagnoses codes can be delivered and then a code for appropriate treatment can be attached.

Services performed by Dr. Astrea’s that are outside of the bio-medical model, like functional medicine services, red-light therapy, and cranio sacral-style therapy, may use conventional diagnostic testing, but do not assess for conventional diagnoses nor treat illnesses.​​

​

Insurance, Receipts, and Superbills (Out-of-Network)

Payment is due at the time of service. Natural Wayz does not bill insurance directly.

Itemized Receipts

An itemized receipt is provided for every appointment and purchase. This receipt may be used for personal records, HSA/FSA documentation (if applicable), or for submission to your insurance plan at your discretion.

​

Superbills (Out-of-Network)

A superbill (an itemized statement that may include diagnostic and procedure codes) is available by request for appointments that qualify as clinical services and are documented accordingly.

• Superbills are provided for eligible services only.

• Superbills are not a guarantee of reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement are determined entirely by your insurance plan.

• If your plan reimburses out-of-network care, it may apply to your deductible and/or coinsurance.

 

Coaching / Educational Services

Some services are offered as health education, lifestyle coaching, and self-regulation support. These services are not medical insurance benefits for many plans and may not be reimbursable, even if you submit a receipt.
